It was all Shikamaru could do not to cry. Everything seemed right, the quirks that Asuma normally exhibited were dead on. He scanned over Asuma again. There’s no way it couldn’t be him. Shikamaru felt the tears flow out of his eyes. How did this happen?! He suddenly dashed to Asuma and clung to him, burying his face into the man’s chest longingly. He missed his sensei more than words can express. The youth was practically weeping into Asuma, so much joy and relief surged through Shika’s body. He never wanted to leave this place, and even if he were hallucinating or having a vivid dream, he prayed not to be woken up. “They’re fine, sensei,” He managed to get out weakly before cuddling back into Asuma. “Please don’t go again!” He cried loudly.

At the feeling of their bodies touching, he immediately froze in place. A deep sigh rumbled in his chest as he shakily wrapped his arms around Shikamaru. He pulled him closer, patting his head lightly to quell the sobbing. This brought tears to his eyes, but he had to show that he wasn’t sad; for the well being of him. “I’ll try not to..” He gave a half smile before placing his hands on the boy’s shoulders, pushing him away some. “Now.. We need to go speak. Outside of Konoha. If I’m found here, alive it will raise suspicion. Why don’t we go to the forest? I can tell you everything there.” He raised to a knee, blowing out another stream of smoke as he stood, bringing Shikamaru up with him. He cursed Hidan for this.

Shikamaru sniffled a bit “Why can’t we just talk here? Mom and Dad won’t be home until tomorrow and we can shut all the doors and cover the windows,” Shikamaru’s voice was fragile and soft. He didn’t want to leave the home. He wanted to keep Asuma here to protect him. He would never let his sensei out of his sight again, that was for sure. “Who cares if your found? The village would rejoice! Everyone was so sad when we thought you were dead! In fact, let’s get Ino and Chouji over here!”

Asuma lowered his head, so his eyes wouldn’t be seen. He lifted the cloak over his head. “No.” He said sternly, unable to show his face. He took the cigarette out of his mouth, cautiously approaching the window and flicking it out. “No one can know I’m here.” He spoke in a harsh tone. His eyes turning to Shikamaru. He didn’t enjoy being forceful, but it was the only way. “I’m going to the forest - I want you to follow me. If you don’t…” His voice trailed off before he turned to face him, their eyes meeting. His own showed longing, wanting for him to just willingly come along. “Then I suppose we won’t get to talk. It’s not safe for me to be in the village.” With that, he transformed back into the old man, jumping out of the window and onto the ground. He waddled his way to the gate of Konoha, looking back every once in a while to see if Shikamaru followed. He waved to the guards before making his way to the forest.

This was a big red flag to Shikamaru. That didn’t sound like Asuma at all. Why wouldn’t he want everyone to know he was alive?! That didn’t make any sense to Shikamaru…it made him think that this was again, a ploy. Shika felt a familiar anger surge through him. Someone was playing a trick on him. They had to be. Asuma would be so distant with Shikamaru nor would he want to meet up outside of Konoha, just to talk. “Bastards” Shikamaru said with a furious tone and laid on his bed.

Shikamaru went back to reading. He was reading abook about Shogi…which made him think about his departed sensei. When his window was forced open, Shikamaru jumped. He immediately jumped off the bed and ran to his door. He was in fight mode now—until he heard his sensei’s voice and saw his face “……..A-Asuma-sensei…….” He bit his lip hard and stared. “This can’t be…you’re dead. This has to be someone playing a damn trick, which one of you assholes is it?” He brought his hands up and was about to do some handsigns—but he couldn’t bear to do something that could hurt his sensei. “…..look” He looked down “Whoever you are just….get the hell out…..my sensei is dead.”

Asuma couldn’t lift his head. He felt shame, that this had to happen. His body became tense, slowly lifting a cigarette from his pocket, lifting a lighter out and lighting the cancer stick which made his problems float away. He brought it to his lips, blowing out a stream of smoke as he slowly managed to stand up. He kept his arms at his sides, tilting his head up to look at Shikamaru. His jaw was clenched shut, until he opened his mouth to speak. “Shikamaru - It’s me.” He gave a slight smile, like he usually did. “..It’s hard to believe.. I know..” He took a few steps forward, sorrow crossing my face. “Kurenai..” The name felt as if he was being stabbed. “How - How is she. And..our child.” The words made his throat feel dry. The family he could never have..

Asuma opened his mouth to speak, but couldn’t form any words. His body grew rigid at the sight of Shikamaru. When the door was shut, he scowled. He had no choice but to do this. He jumped up to his window, opening it and stepping inside the room. Since he was in there, they were now face to face. “Shikamaru.” He said sternly, before he released the transformation, now himself again. “To shut the door on your old sensei..” He let out a sigh, approaching him, making sure the cloak hid most of his face. If his heart was beating, he would most likely feel as if we was going to have a heart attack. His body trembled. He wished he could tell him the misery he was going to experience. He dropped to his knees, his head in his hands. “…Shikamaru..”

“Your voice. It’s giving me a headache. I would prefer it if you stopped talking.” He spoke in one quick motion. He wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. If he could warn Shikamaru, he would. His eyes narrowed as he glanced to Hidan. “Are you sure about that now? I may not have a choice, but I don’t think you know as quite as much as you think you do.” Whoever his partner was, he would be shocked if they could put up with this.

“Mm. I’m sure you can.” He rolled his eyes in annoyance before picking up the pace, easily dodging random obstacles in his way. “Yeah, yeah. Understood. It’s going to be quite a scene for me to just waltz into Konoha. But.” He shrugged. He then came a stop, a number of feet away from Konoha’s gates. They were hidden in the trees. He reached up, rubbing the back of his neck. “I really don’t want to do this..” He sighed, reaching into his pouch to pull out a large brown cloak. How this could fit in his pouch is beyond him.

He slipped it on before allowing himself to transform into a somewhat older man. He looked at Hidan, licking his lips a few times. He had a slight hunch. “Don’t make any comments.” He scowled before slightly waddling his way over to the gates. He got in easily, claiming he was just a traveler. Making his way to Shikamaru’s house, he knocked a few times, awaiting for someone to answer the door. Hopefully..it wouldn’t be him.

Shikamaru was sitting in his bedroom not really doing anything. Today was very boring. Nothing was happening. No one was home. It was just boring. When he heard a knock on the door, not really caring who it was. If it were Chouji or Ino, they would simply walk in without knocking. Shika wasn’t really interested who was at the door. He figured that they would go away eventually. When the knocking persisted he groaned and walked downstairs. He opened the door and didn’t recognize the cloaked man. “Can I help you with something. My parents aren’t home, come at a later time,” He shut the door and resumed his post up in his room.

“You don’t know if you’ll be able to deal with what, corpse?” Hidan spat with less than no concern for Asuma’s feelings. “It’s not like you have a choice. Don’t think I don’t know how Kabuto’s damned jutsu works.” He knew less than he thought; for example, he was under the impression that with Kabuto’s death would come the deaths of all of his minions as well.

“Of course I can keep up.” Hidan easily kept to Asuma’s side, dashing with him through the trees. “Yeah, something like that.” He agreed before hissing, “How the hell should I know? You’re his mentor, right? Figure it out! I’ll wait outside Konoha, and you’ll bring him to me- alone- something like that. Got it?” It was a demand.

“Your voice. It’s giving me a headache. I would prefer it if you stopped talking.” He spoke in one quick motion. He wanted to get this over with as soon as possible. PARTY TIME! @Anyone

Kiba wasn’t one to stand around in the corner and look like a complete idiot. Rubbing the back of his head awkwardly, he noticed a number of people conversating. Damn. Maybe he wasn’t as good as he thought he was. Too bad for everyone else. He would just go drink. Shrugging, he searched around idly for a bottle of sake, popping to top off and taking a few swigs. His eyes traveled to Akamaru who looked at him like he was an idiot. “Don’t give me that look.” He glared, letting out a sigh. “Where’s my girlfriend? She’s better at parties than I am.” He didn’t look half bad, though. He was on the look-out for mistletoe. He didn’t want his lips touching anyone but Ino’s. For the sake of his life, and the person who would receive his kiss.

Shikamaru sighed. He saw Kiba and the feelings of unpleasantness flowed over him. He had gotten him for Secret Santa and actually got him a gift. It was a nice gift, a jeweled collar for Akamaru and a nice watch for Kiba, with a bottle of whiskey. He didn’t really know if Kiba would like it; but Ino couldn’t yell at him for not trying to be “nice”. He walked up to the Inuzuka boy and tapped his shoulder. He held out the nicely wrapped gift.

There was a very familiar smell coming from someone near him. He couldn’t put a finger on who it was. Narrowing his eyes once his shoulder was tapped, he turned to see none other than Shikamaru. His eyes widened at the gift. “…..Shikamaru?” He raised his brow in question before slowly taking the gift from him. “Wow - um. Thank you.” He was at a loss for words. His brow knitted together in confusion. “Are you drunk or somethin’? Normally you would just dump soapy water over me or something.” This was quite interesting to say the least. He shrugged, sending the pineapple head a large grin.

Shikamaru sort of avoided his eyes. “If you don’t like it you can return it, the receipt is in there,” His voice was soft and gentle, which was very unlike his usual tone. “I’m not drunk—yet” He laughed a  little bit “No water today, Inuzuka,” He laughed loudly and nudged him “Eh, in there’s a bottle of whiskey…we should drink, I’m going to need a lot of alcohol to deal with tonight,” He bit his lip a bit. He didn’t know how Kiba would react to this…he hoped that the other would see it as an extension of friendship and not a means to mock him. Shikamaru waited awkwardly in his kimono and his hair was down.

Party

shadowdeershika:

Shikamaru grunted as he fastened his kimono into place. He didn’t know how formal Hinata’s party was; so he figured he’d just go all out. The kimono was a darkshade of green. He decided to wear his hair down. Mine as well surprise them He thought to himself. He put on his shoes, grabbed Kiba’s present reluctantly and exited his home. He walked through the Hyuuga residence. He was nervous about this whole thing. He wasn’t used to these social occasions. Maybe he shouldn’t’ve worn a kimono. That was awfully formal and knowing his friends, it wouldn’t require such a fancy form of attire.

When he got to the door. He knocked and was ushered in. He set the gift near the other ones and looked around. He saw many people he knew; but wasn’t going to be the first one to initiate any sort of conversation. He gravitated towards the back of the room when he noticed that everyone wasn’t so…formal. He nervously bit his lip. How troublesome….

“S-Shikamaru-Kun?” Hinata questioned walking pass the man she believed to be Shikamaru standing in a corner of the hall which her party was being held. “Yo-You decided to show!” she squealed loudly pulling him into a tight hug. She looked him over and smiled brightly grateful that he had shown up. “You look very handsome by the way, I would have never guessed you had that much hair!” Hinata giggled placing a hand over her mouth as she laughed. She stepped back away from him and noticed that was dressed very formally like most of the branch and main house members, but the people she was friends with and her immediate family weren’t in such formal attire. It was fine, he looked great in his kimoto anyway. “What made you change your mind?” she asked dragging herself out of her thoughts looking at him giddy waiting for an answer.

Shikamaru looked at Hinata and smiled a bit “Well…Chouji’s the one who really convinced me to come. At first I wasn’t going to because..well a certain person’s here that I don’t really get on with too well; but Chouji said I would still have a good time and I didn’t have anything else to do so…yeah I’m here..” He turned a little red “Yeah my hair is actually a bit long…most people don’t notice it because its always in the ponytail,” He looked over her. She had on a very pretty dress and looked nice “Your dress is very pretty, Hinata,” He said with a respectful tone. He didn’t want her to think that he was creeping on her or anything, so he looked a way a bit. “I was thinking about going to go change….its really much too formal…” He groaned “People are going to make fun of me…how troublesome…”
